Warriors run to second and eighth place finishes at OSU Invitational

CORVALLIS, Ore. – In his first race back following a bout with the flu, sophomore Nathan May (Phoenix, Ore.) won his second individual title of the season by almost thirty seconds, while fellow sophomore Jill Nielsen (Baker City, Ore.) finished 32nd individually as Corban’s cross country teams finished 2nd and 8th respectively at the Oregon State University Invitational on Saturday morning.

May, who missed last weekend’s race due to illness, came back strong and finished the 8k race in a time of 24:38 to bring home the second individual title in the 3-year history of the program.  May finished twenty-four seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Zach Done from the University of Oregon.

Freshmen Jason Bernard (Salem, Ore.) and Ben Snell (Spray, Ore.) finished 11th and 13th respectively with times of 25:59 and 26:02, while six other Warriors finished within the top 50 out of 84 runners.

On the women’s side, Nielsen (pictured right) finished 32nd individually with a 5k course time of 24:90.30, while freshman Katrina Davis (Anchorage, Alaska) finished right behind her in a time of 24:50.02.  Freshman Lianna Van Batavia (Burns, Ore.) and sophomore Sara Aiken (Lebanon, Ore.) ran the course in times of 25:40.96 and 26:28.30 respectively to place 42nd and 54th overall.

Both teams finished the regular season portion of their schedule and will now prepare for the NAIA Region I Championships on Saturday, November 5th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Portland.
