Jordan & Snell lead Warriors at Bowles Invitational

SALEM, Ore. - Competing in the 33rd annual Charles Bowles Invitational at Bush Pasture Park in Salem, Corban's men's & women's cross country teams finished 17th and 12th respectively as senior Danielle Jordan (Medford, Ore.) paced the women's team and junior Ben Snell (Spray, Ore.) led the men's squad.

On the women's side, Corban recorded its best finish to date at the annual cross country event hosted by Willamette University thanks to a 12th place finish as a team. Among the Cascade Collegiate Conference schools, the Warriors finished behind only 9th place finisher Eastern Oregon University and was a mere 50 points away from beating the Mountaineers.

Leading the way for the women's team was Jordan, who finished the 5K course in a time of 18:34.79 to claim 27th individually despite running with an injury. Sophomore Carli Moller (Vancouver, Wash.) and freshman Karissa Griggs (Athena, Ore.) completed the course neck-and-neck in times of 19:17.50 and 19:17.80 respectively to finish in the top 70.

Rounding out the team qualifiers were sophomore Tera Stegner (Damascus, Ore.) in a time of 19:29.05 (72nd overall), senior Sara Aikin (Lebanon, Ore.) in a time of 19:40.95 (89th overall), senior Jill Nielsen (Baker City, Ore.) in a time of 19:41.10 (90th overall), and freshman Ali Ghavami (Keizer, Ore.) in a time of 19:46.35 (99th overall).

Freshman Alyssa Powers (Goldendale, Wash.), freshman Andrea Collins (Spangle, Wash.), sophomore Melissa Peterson (Cascade, Ore.), and freshman Madison Lewis (Anchorage, Alaska) all ran for the Warriors but were counted as individuals.

On the men's side, Corban turned in an overall team finish of 17th out of 27 teams with Snell leading the way in a time of 26:09.80 on the 8K course to finish 74th individually. Fellow junior Jason Bernard (Salem, Ore.) completed his best race of the season with a total time of 26:40.30 to place 109th overall and sophomore Jeffrey Schloemer (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) turned in a time of 26:45.76 to finish in the top 115 individually.

Freshman Kevin Cook (Ashland, Ore.), junior Brian Beeson (Soldotna, Alaska), freshmen Ben Search (Battleground, Wash.), and sophomore Michael Baxter (Kent, Wash.) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors. The quartet ran the course in 27:28.55, 27:33.55, 27:42.75, and 28:55.50 respectively.

Representing Corban, but counting as individuals were a trio of freshmen -- Jason Hardrath (Baker City, Ore.), Beau St. Peter (Salem, Ore.), and Nathan Moller (Vancouver, Wash.).

Corban is next in action on Saturday, October 13th, when the Warriors take part in the Warner Pacific/Cascade Open beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Lents Park in Portland.
