Rumrey notches 100th career
goal in victory over Cascade
Warriors to host playoff match at West Salem High School
SALEM, Ore. - The Western Baptist women's soccer team will enter the
Cascade Collegiate Conference playoffs as the No. 1 seed from the Southern
Division following an 8-0 triumph over winless Cascade College.
The Warriors (12-6-1, 10-2 CCC South) finished tied atop the divisional
standings with Southern Oregon, but hold the tiebreaker advantage. WB
will host the No. 2 seed from the Northern Division, Evergreen, in the
conference tournament semifinals on Wednesday at West Salem High School.
Concordia will host Southern Oregon in the other semifinal contest.
Wet October weather clobbered Western Baptist's new home soccer turf
so the decision was made to entertain Evergreen at West Salem. The match
will be played on artificial field turf under the lights, beginning
at 7 p.m. The new sports complex is located on Titan Avenue just off
of Orchard Heights Road in West Salem. From I-5 head west on Highway
22 through downtown and across the Marion Street bridge. Stay right,
following Wallace Road before turning left on Orchard Heights and continue
about two miles to the school.
In their final regular season match Western Baptist got two goals and
two assists from KeriAnn
Rumrey who is third in the history of NAIA women's soccer
in scoring. The senior midfielder tallied the first goal of the match
in the 11th minute then gave WB a 4-0 edge at intermission with another
score 28 seconds before the break. Her second goal was the 100th of
her career..
Six other players scored for the Warriors - winners of three in a row.
Julie Lemke and
Meghan Cruz hit
the net in the first period, while Kari
Swenson, Julie
Baird, Danae
Crain and Megan
Shepard had goals in the second frame.
WB dominated play throughout, limiting the Thunderbirds to a single
shot attempt. Cascade goalkeeper Nicole Young recorded 15 saves.
