Rumrey is regional player of the year and NAIA all-American
Baird joins teammate as an all-region selection

SALEM, Ore. - Senior KeriAnn Rumrey (Oregon City, Ore. / Molalla HS) became the first Western Baptist women's soccer player to be named a NAIA all-American by being selected to the 2003 NAIA All-American Third Team after also garnishing the NAIA Region I Player of the Year Award.

Junior Julie Baird (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lakeridge HS) joined Rumrey with regional recognition being named to the NAIA Region I Second Team.

Rumrey, who was the Cascade Collegiate Conference Co-Player-of-the-Year, captured her second consecutive conference scoring title this season with 20 goals and 24 assists. She tallied four game-winning goals and set a new program mark with five assists in a game.

Western Baptist's all-time scoring leader, Rumrey completed her collegiate career as the all-time best passer and one of the top scorers in NAIA history. The fleet-footed midfielder is first in career assists (75), third in total points (277) and fifth in goals (101).

Rumrey was first-team all-conference, first-team all-region, and a NAIA honorable mention all-American her first three seasons. She was the conference player-of-the-year in 2001 and set Western Baptist's single-season program scoring record in 2002 with 38 goals and 25 assists. The assist mark is also an NAIA single-season record.

Baird was forced to miss part of the 2003 campaign with an injury, but the midfielder tallied eight goals and two assists in 18 matches. Baird scored both goals in the Warriors' 2-1 conference semifinals playoff victory over Evergreen.

Baird played her freshman season at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro before transferring to WB. In two seasons she is ninth in program history with 12 goals scored.

Over 200 NAIA institutions participate is women's soccer throughout the United States and Canada. Region I consists of 12 teams in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia.

Western Baptist finished the 2003 campaign with a 15-9-1 overall record and advanced to the conference tournament championship and the regional tournament for the fifth straight year.
