Warriors picked 3rd in CCC pre-season poll
LA GRANDE, Ore. - Eleven-year head coach Marty Ziesemer and the Corban College Warriors women's soccer team found out today that they are picked to finish 3rd in the conference behind 2005 conference champions Concordia and The Evergreen State College.
As 5-out-of-10 coaches submitted their voting results, Concordia was picked as the front-runner thanks to receiving all 5 first-place votes and 50 total points. The Cavaliers were followed by Evergreen (40 points), Corban (39 points), Albertson (32 points), Southern Oregon (31 points), Eastern Oregon (24 points), Warner Pacific (22 points), Oregon Tech (20 points), Cascade (9 points), and Northwest Christian (8 points).
With 9 returnees and 9 new faces, the Warriors are set to take the field and contend for the conference crown, as well as a return spot in the NAIA Region I post-season tournament. Senior forwards Lyndsey Hawk (Medford, Ore.) and Charissa Bernard (Salem, Ore.) returns to lead the squad, as well as senior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.). Junior forward Megan Waunch (Tumwater, Wash.) returns from her 7 goal, 4 assist sophomore season up front, along with the new additions that Ziesemer has added throughout his line-up.
The Warriors open the 2006 season at home on Thursday, Aug. 24th, at rhe annual Corban Classic when they host the University of Great Falls beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Warrior Field.
