BEAVERTON, Ore. – Heading into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) Region I playoffs, Corban’s women’s soccer team was riding a nine-game unbeaten streak, but could not continue that streak as they fell to the tournament’s No. 1 seed Simon Fraser, 3-0, on Friday morning.
Playing the game at Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District, the Warriors had their second taste of a field turf field and was a little slower and less aggressive over the first half, which led to two goals in the first 34-plus minutes by the Clan.
In the second half, the Warriors began to push things offensively and had a few scoring opportunities, but could not capitalize on any of them. In the 82nd minute, Simon Fraser capped the scoring when Nikki Gaffney took a pass from Marissa Antoniazzi and netted the game’s final goal.
Junior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) and sophomore goalkeeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) split time in net and the duo combined for 4 saves – 1 by Mendenhall and 3 by Allen.
Corban finished the season at 9-8-3 overall, while Simon Fraser improves to 9-4-3 overall.
