Warriors extend unbeaten streak with win over Western Oregon

October 17, 2005

MONMOUTH, Ore. – It seems that Corban’s women’s soccer team is peaking at just the right time, as they extended their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) with a 2-1 win over NCAA Division III member Western Oregon on Monday afternoon.

Following an Amy Weberg goal in the 11th minute, sophomore Megan Waunch (Tumwater, Wash.) got Corban on the score board when she took a pass from fellow sophomore Allison Buswell (Salem, Ore.) and netted her 4th goal of the season.  Buswell lofted a long, high pass from the sideline over the keeper onto the waiting foot of Waunch (#24 - pictured right) , who netted the tying goal in the 17th minute.

After a first half that saw 12 shots by Western Oregon and 4 shots by Corban, the Warriors began the second half pushing the offense and junior Lyndsey Hawk (Medford, Ore.) scored the game-winner off an assist from senior Sarah Officer (Steilacoom, Wash.) in the 70th minute.  Officer began the play by feeding a wide open Hawk (#17 - pictured right) , who posted out the keeper and found an open net for her 3rd goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) played the entire game and recorded a game-high 8 saves en route to securing her 5th win of the season.

Despite being out shot 20-11, Corban’s defense stepped up to the challenge and helped the Warriors even their overall record at 7-7-2, while Western Oregon falls to 6-9-0 overall.

The Warriors are next in action in the second game of men’s-women’s double-header on Friday, October 21st, when they return to conference play against Oregon Tech beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
