Warriors continue winning streak with victory over Cascade

PORTLAND, Ore. – Three different Warriors, including senior forward and Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week Sarah Officer (Steilacoom, Wash.), scored a goal en route to Corban’s women’s soccer team extended their winning streak to three games thanks to a 3-0 victory over Cascade on Wednesday evening.
The scoring began in the 10th minute when senior Kari Swenson (Fallon, Nev.) scored her second goal in the last three games on an assist from Officer. Swenson chipped the pass from Officer, which was her team-leading 6th assist of the season, from 18 yards out over Cascade’s goalkeeper giving Corban the earlier 1-0 lead.
Less than twenty minutes later, sophomore Sara Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.) scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 29th minute giving the Warriors a two-goal advantage.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Officer scored her team-leading 6th goal of the season on an assist from sophomore Allison Buswell (Salem, Ore.) in the 63rd minute. Officer took a through ball from Buswell and rifled a shot into the upper left hand corner, which capped the scoring for the game.
For the fifth straight game, Corban shut out Cascade, as sophomore goalkeeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) needed to record only one save to secure the shut out. Allen (pictured right), who leads the team in Goals Against Average at 1.45, extended her scoreless streak to 208 minutes.
Cascade’s goalkeeper Kelci Harn recorded a game-high 7 saves, while allowing all three Corban goals.
With the win, Corban improves to 5-7-1 overall, 4-5 in Cascade Collegiate play. Cascade falls to 1-10 overall, 0-9 in Cascade Collegiate play. The Warriors are next in action on Wednesday, October 12th, when they host Warner Pacific in a 4:00 p.m. match up. Corban will be looking to avenge an earlier 3-2 overtime loss to the Knights in the conference opener for both teams. |
