Warriors extend winning streak to two games with overtime victory over Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Senior forward Sarah Officer (Steilacoom, Wash.) scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 99th minute, as Corban’s women’s soccer team extended their winning streak to two games thanks to a 3-2 overtime victory over Eastern Oregon on Saturday evening.

Trailing 1-0, Officer (pictured right) took a pass from sophomore Allison Buswell (Salem, Ore.) and scored her 4th goal of the season in the 19th minute to tie the game.

Eastern Oregon regained the lead when Cayleih Mackay took a Lindsay Freeland pass and gave the Mountaineers to 1-goal advantage in the 32nd minute.

Just over a minute later, junior Nicole Hickman (Yakima, Wash.) took a combo pass from seniors Danae Peirce (Olympia, Wash.) and Katie Casebeer (Jacksonville, Ore.) and scored her second goal of the season capping the scoring for regulation.

Both team battled throughout the final 57 minutes with neither team cracking the opposing defense, which sent the game into an extra overtime period.

In the 99th minute, Officer scored her second goal of the game and her team-leading 5th of the season on a combo assist from juniors Lyndsey Hawk (Medford, Ore.) and Kathleen Studenny (Gresham, Ore.) for the game-winner.

Junior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) started the game for Corban and recorded 5 saves, while sophomore Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) finished the final 54 minutes in goal and recorded 6 saves.

With the win, Corban improves to 4-7-1 overall, 3-5 in Cascade Collegiate play.  Eastern Oregon falls to 4-7 overall, 4-4 in Cascade Collegiate play.  The Warriors are next in action on Wednesday, October 5th, when they travel to Portland for a 4:00 p.m. match up with Cascade College.
