BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. – Corban College’s women’s soccer team traveled north to Portland with another chance to upset another nationally-ranked team. Unfortunately, the Warriors ran into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) No. 5-ranked Concordia and fell, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier this season, Corban upset nationally-ranked Biola, 1-0, to open their season, but the Warriors could not repeat that performance thanks to three Cavalier goals with the first coming in the 9th minute by Concordia’s Jennifer Hughes off an assist from Justine Pronovost.
Corban could not muster any shots during the first half of play and found themselves down 2-0 at half time thanks to another Cavalier goal in the 31st minute by Haley Jones off and assist from Stephanie Solarek.
The game stayed a two-goal Cavalier advantage until the 83rd minute when Jones scored her second goal of the game off another assist by Pronovost.
Corban was dominated in every offensive category – total shots (13-2), shots on goal (7-1), and corner kicks (7-1) – with seniors Sarah Officer (Steilacoom, Wash.) and Kari Swenson (Fallon, Nev.) recording only one shot each.
Junior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) played the entire game and recorded 4 saves, while Concordia’s Leah Flores needed to make only 1 save in order to secure the shut out.
With the loss, Corban falls to 2-5-1 overall, 1-3-0 in Cascade Collegiate play. Concordia improves to 9-1-0 overall, 5-0-0 in Cascade Collegiate play. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, October 30th, when they travel to Caldwell, Idaho for a match up with Albertson College of Idaho beginning at 2:00 p.m.
