Warriors fail in attempt to hault Geoducks' unbeaten streak at seven

September 21, 2005

SALEM, Ore. – Junior Nicole Hickman (Yakima, Wash.) and senior Meghan Cruz (Vancouver, Wash.) each scored a goal for Corban College, but it was not enough as the Warriors fell to The Evergreen State College, 4-2, on Wednesday afternoon.

Down 1-0, Hickman took a tip pass from sophomore Sarah Whaley (Gresham, Ore.) and shot into the middle of the net to tie the game in the 15th minute.  Whaley had received a cross from fellow sophomore Allison Buswell (Salem, Ore.) and flicked it onto Hickman’s foot, who proceeded to rifle a shot into the back of the net.

Twenty minutes later, Cruz scored her first goal of the season when she took a pass from junior Amy Ramos (North Bend, Ore.) and snuck the ball by the Geoducks’ keeper and into the back of the net to give the Warriors a one goal advantage.

Corban took a 2-1 lead into halftime, but could not hold it as Evergreen scored three goals in an 11-minute span after the break.  The Geoducks’ Alice Dietz began the scoring in the 66th minute when she one-timed a corner kick from Jenine Adam into the back of the net, tying the game at 2-2.

Four minutes later, Evergreen gained a cushion when Kate Green took a through ball from April McKay, broke away from the Warrior defense, and slid the ball under Corban’s outstretched keeper.

The Geoducks capped the scoring when Alisha White scored her 2nd goal of the game off an assist from Elizabeth Lieberknecht in the 77th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) played the first half for Corban and recorded 2 saves, while sophomore goalkeeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) finished out the game for the Warriors and recorded 4 saves.

With the loss, Corban falls to 2-5-1 overall, 1-4-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.  The Evergreen State College improves to 6-0-1 overall, 3-0-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.  The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, September 24th, when they travel to Portland for a match up with the NAIA’s No. 5-ranked Cavaliers of Concordia beginning at 4:00 p.m.
