BOX SCORE
ASHLAND, Ore. – Sophomore Allison Buswell (Salem, Ore.) scored her second goal of the season in the 59th minute, but it was not enough as Corban College’s women’s soccer team fell 5-1 to Southern Oregon on Friday evening.
Down 4-0, Buswell (pictured right) unloaded a short range shot into the back of the net 14 minutes into the second half following two short passes from seniors Sarah Officer (Steilacoom, Wash.) and Katie Casebeer (Jacksonville, Ore.). The goal was Buswell’s first in two games and second of the season (5th of her career).
Southern Oregon got the scoring started early when Lindsey Karsten scored the first of two goals in the 6th minute off an assist from Katy Valdez. Karsten took the ball at the top of the box and fired a laser into the upper right corner for the game’s first goal.
By the end of the first half, Karsten had added another goal and the host Raiders extended their lead to 3-0, thanks to Morgan Spencer’s score off an assist from Brei McCoy.
Less than 7 minutes into the second half, Southern Oregon extended its lead to 4-0, thanks to a goal by Kara Bradach off a 1-2 combo assist from Lindsey Karsten and Judi Dietz in the 52nd minute.
Corban halted the host Raiders’ scoring via Buswell’s goal, but Southern Oregon added its fifth and final goal in the 82nd minute when Bradach scored her 2nd goal of the game unassisted following a Warrior turnover.
Junior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) played the entire game in goal and recorded 3 saves for Corban, while Melanie Hopkins recorded 10 saves for Southern Oregon.
With the loss, Corban falls to 2-4-1 overall, 1-2 in CCC play. Southern Oregon improves to 2-4-0 overall, 1-2 in CCC play. The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, September 17th, when they travel to Klamath Falls for a match up with Oregon Tech beginning at 5:00 p.m.
