PORTLAND, Ore. -
After scoring a pair of goals and handing out an assist during Corban's women's soccer trip to the state of Montana, senior midfielder Sara Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.) was named both NAIA Region I and Cascade Collegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced today by the conference office.
The 5-foot senior opened the weekend by assisting on Corban's second goal and then scored the Warriors' fourth goal in their 6-1 victory over Frontier Conference member Great Falls on Saturday.
On Sunday, Laughlin tallied Corban's lone goal against the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' (NAIA) No. 8-ranked Saints of Carroll College in the Warriors' 4-1 loss in Helena, Montana.
So far this season, Laughlin is tied for the team lead in both goals with three and assists with two while leading the Warriors in points with eight.
"Sara is having a great year, working hard as a senior, and playing with a lot of confidence," said twelfth head coach Marty Ziesemer. "This award is deserving, as she has worked hard this season and it is beginning to show in her play on the field."
This honor is Laughlin's first of her career and the first for the Corban women's soccer program since then-sophomore and current senior Megan Waunch (Tumwater, Wash.) was named both conference and regional Player of the Week on October 26, 2005.
So far this season, Corban is 2-4-0 overall and are next in action on Friday, September 14th, when they kick off Cascade Collegiate Conference play against the Lady Thunderbirds of Cascade beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Portland.
