Goals plus defense equals tough loss at Corban Classic

September 3, 2005

SALEM, Ore. - Host Corban College could not overcome a tough defense by Trinity International en route to suffering their first loss of the season, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Corban found themselves down quickly, as the visiting Lady Trojans scored in the 9th minute when junior Ashleigh Dellos took a pass from senior Lindy Gritter and flicked the ball over the Warriors’ keeper for the early lead.

Both teams seemed pretty evenly matched over the first forty-five minutes, as Trinity International slightly out shot the Warriors, 10-6.

Everything seemed to change for Corban over the final forty-five minutes of play, as Trinity International controlled the ball on their half of the field for a majority of the second half.

The Warriors did not record a shot in the second half, while the visiting Lady Trojans rifled 15 shots towards Corban’s goal.

In the 84th minute, Trinity International added some cushioning when sophomore Loryssa Simas received a pass from junior Katelyn Keckeisen, beat two Corban defenders, and slid the ball under the Warrior goalkeeper.

Trinity International goalkeeper Allison Budden collected 2 saves en route to recording the shut out, while Corban’s sophomore goalkeeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) recorded 8 saves, while allowing 2 goals.

Corban found themselves down offensively all day, as Trinity International out shot the Warriors, 25-6 (10-2 shots on goal), and recorded 13 more corner kicks (15-2).

Corban falls to 1-1-0 on the young season, while Trinity International improves to 2-2-0.  The Warriors are next in action on Wednesday, September 7th, when they travel north to Warner Pacific to kick off the Cascade Conference portion of their schedule beginning at 6:00 p.m.
