Warriors use second half trifecta to earn win over Alumni

August 27. 2005

SALEM, Ore. - Junior Nicole Hickman (Yakima, Wash.) scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute when she connected on a perfect give-and-go play with sophomore Megan Waunch (Tumwater, Wash.) and lifted Corban College to a 3-0 win over the Alumni on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.

Despite the score, both teams played well, but the Alumni seemed to run out of gas midway through the second half of play allowing the Warriors to score two more goals in the final 11 minutes of play. Senior Sarah Officer (Steilacoom, Wash.) scored the Warriors' second goal in the 69th minute when she connected with fellow senior Kari Swenson (Fallon, Nev.), while sophomore Allison Buswell (Salem, Ore.) capped the Warriors' scoring when she received a gift from fellow sophomore Sarah Whaley (Gresham, Ore.), who richoceted a shot off of Buswell and into the back of the net.

The returning Warriors (aka Alumni team) featured the Warriors' all-time leading scorer KeriAnn Rumrey, who dazzled the crowd with moves that left the current Corban players wondering what just happened to them. Along with Rumrey, the other players that returned to Warrior Field for another day of fun in the sun were Michele Reyes (2001), Sheena Darling (2000-04), Shannan Morgan (1998), Jen Trota (1998-2001), Amy Allen (1998-2000), Julie Goodale (2000-03), Kendra Walker (1996-98), Wendy Wadnjzak (1997-2000), and Amy Palacios (1996-99). The Alumni team had a few chances in both the first and second half, but could not put anything into the back of the net.

Corban begin their regular season on Friday, September 2nd, against the NAIA's No. 6-ranked Biola in the 2nd game of the Annual Corban Classic beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Warrior Field.
