NAMPA, Idaho - Freshman Erin Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.) teamed with fellow freshman Katie Hanson (Salem, Ore.) to score the game-winning overtime goal off a corner kick, as Corban's women's soccer team began the season with a thrilling double-overtime win, 3-2, over NCAA Division II member Northwest Nazarene on Friday.

The host Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute and rode that advantage until halftime.

In the 53rd minute, senior Sara Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.) scored Corban's first goal of the season when she teamed with fellow senior Sarah Whaley (Gresham, Ore.). The goal was Laughlin's third of her career and first since October 5, 2005 when she scored against Cascade College.

Just under twenty minutes later, sophomore Hillary Abraham (Canby, Ore.) notched her first career goal as a Warrior when she teamed with Hanson via a corner kick.

Clinging to a one-goal lead, Corban attempted to apply the defensive pressure only to have Northwest Nazarene tie the score at 2-all in the 76th minute. The Crusaders' goal came when a shot by NNU's Kim Bowen deflected off Corban freshman defender Genessa Neeser (Pocatello, Idaho) for her second goal of the game.

With neither team being able to find the back of the net for the final 14 minutes, the game went into overtime where once again neither team could score in the first overtime period.

In the second extra frame, Laughlin and Hanson teamed up in the 119th minute for the game-winning goal. Hanson began the play with another corner kick that bounced off a Crusader defender before finding the foot of Laughlin, who blasted the shot into the back of the net for the first goal of her young career.

The Laughlin sisters, along with Abraham, each ended the contest with a goal, while Hanson tallied a pair of assists. Junior goalkeeper Karyn Allen (Merlin, Ore.) recorded a game-high 12 saves en route to picking up her first win as a Warrior since the 2005 season.

Corban was out-shot by seven shots (22-14), including a 14-9 deficit in shots on goal, but came away with the season-opening victory and extended its winning streak over Northwest Nazarene to three games.

Northwest Nazarene's Bowen scored both of the Crusader goals, while Carlee Stinton and Jordyn Fulcher handed out an assist each.

With the win, Corban begins its 2007 campaign 1-0-0. Meanwhile, Northwest Nazarene falls to 0-1-0 on the young season. The Warriors are next in action on Tuesday, August 28th, when they kick off their home season against defending National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) champions Mount Vernon Nazarene beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Warrior Field.
