SALEM, Ore. –Corban’s women’s soccer team looked impressive kicking off the 2006 season, as senior forward Lyndsey Hawk (Medford, Ore.) scored two goals and handed out two assists in leading the Warriors to a 4-0 victory over the University of Great Falls on Thursday.

The 5-foot-2 fourth-year player got things started for the home team in the 2nd minute when she took a one-two combo pass from junior Megan Waunch (Tumwater, Ore.) and senior Kathleen Studenny (Gresham, Ore.).  Hawk gathered the ball in front of the net and tapped a shot past the Lady Argonauts’ keeper into the lower right corner for the season’s first goal.

Less than thirty minutes later, Waunch put Corban up two goals when she took a pass from Hawk and freshman Kacie Emerick (Bellingham, Wash.) and unloaded a shot underneath Great Falls’ goalie to cap the first half scoring.

In the 71st minute, senior Charissa Bernard (Salem, Ore.) scored her first goal in more than a year via a one-two combo pass from Waunch and Hawk.  The 5-foot-9 forward found the back of the net after she rifled a shot into the upper right hand corner for the Warriors’ third goal.

With three seconds remaining in the game, Hawk capped the scoring when she took a pass from Studenny and after two quick touches beat her defender before unloading a shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the game.

Senior goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall (Windsor, Calif.) needed to record a mere 2 saves en route to registering her 13th career shutout.

With the win, Corban opens the season 1-0 overall, while Great Falls drops to 0-1 overall.
