After over two decades as
a college men's basketball assistant coach, Dave Bale has made the transition
to the women's side, taking over the Corban College head position in
2002. In three seasons Dave has guided the Warriors to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament title game and NAIA Division II Tournament twice. In 2004-05 the Warriors claimed their second-ever conference tournament crown. In his three seasons
Dave's squads have compiled a 55-39 overall win-loss record.
Dave has a wealth of collegiate basketball coaching experience, beginning
at Washington State University where he was a volunteer assistant while
receiving his Master's degree in 1979-80. From there he coached at Judson
Baptist College and Warner Pacific College before moving on to Arizona
State University to work on his Doctorate. He was a volunteer and graduate
assistant in the men's basketball program at ASU from 1986-89. He spent
seven seasons as an assistant at the University of Puget Sound, then
was the men's basketball assistant at Corban for three seasons.
Dave played college basketball at Concordia University in Minnesota where
he graduated in 1977.
"When I look back over the years since I left the Midwest, I can
hardly believe the experiences God has allowed me to have," Dave
said. "My intent as a coach has always been to help the athlete
develop at their chosen sport in both fitness and skill to enhance their
chance of winning the prize. However, since becoming a Christian the
race for wins has not been the only goal. At Corban College
the Christian agenda of the race still includes the wins, but the women
I coach have a sincere desire to compete for God and win in His race."
Dave came to Corban
in 1998 and is a Professor of Education and directs the Human Performance
major. He is a bicycle enthusiast, road racing in the summer, and has
three dogs trained in bird hunting. He also enjoys a good game of badminton.
Dave's wife, Shelia, is a Corban graduate, whom he met through former Warrior
men's basketball coach, Tim Collins, when she worked on campus in the
athletics department during the 1980's.
