The Warriors were entering the Activities Center on the campus of ACI following an abnormal night off for the host Coyotes. Due to travel problems for Concordia University-Portland, Corban had to play back-to-back nights, while Albertson was able to get an extra day rest before matching up with their nationally-ranked opponents.
At halftime, the game was knotted at 32-all, but Corban came out and used a stifling defense that held the Lady ‘Yotes to 39.1% (9-for-23) shooting from the field over the final twenty minutes. On the other hand, the Warriors found their shooting touch and nailed 15-out-of-31 (48.1%) shots from the field en route to scoring 42 points and returning to Salem with their 12th victory of the season.
Juniors Jessi Schaumburg (Redmond, Ore.) and Tosha Wilson (Madras, Ore.), along with senior Erin Plotts (Mill City, Ore.) completed the quartet of Warriors that scored in double figures as the trio combined to score 44 points. Schaumburg continued her hot shooting performance, as she connected on 7-out-of-16 shots for 17 points, while Plotts and Wilson added 14 and 13 points respectively.
Wilson and freshman Emily Kindle (Stayton, Ore.) aided Steigleman on the boards with 5 rebounds each, while junior Jessica Cox (Bridgeport, Calif.) and four other Warriors pulled down 3 and 2 rebounds respectively.
Corban shot 29-for-68 (42.6%) from the field, while Albertson shot 20-for-49 (40.8%).
Jori Grady led all players with 23 points for Albertson, while Kim Strunk and Angie Gribble round out the Lady ‘Yotes in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively. Strunk recorded a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds, while Grady and Magen Dufurrena grabbed 7 rebounds each.
With the win, Corban improves to 12-3 overall, 3-1 in CCC play. Albertson falls to 6-7 overall, 0-2 in CCC play. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, December 30th, when they continue conference play against the Cavaliers of Concordia beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Portland.
