Warriors top NCAA Division II member Wolves of Western Oregon

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Junior Jessi Schaumburg (Redmond, Ore.) scored a game-high 21 points on 9-for-10 shooting from the field, as Corban’s women’s basketball team defeated NCAA Division II member Western Oregon, 80-56, on Saturday night.

The 5-foot-6 junior from Redmond High School tied former Warrior Toran Lundgren’s single game school record for field goal percentage making 90.0% of her shots. Schaumburg was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc, while playing only 25 minutes.
Corban began the second half making four straight shots (three 3-pointers and one 2-pointer) and extended their 12-point half time lead to 20 points following an 11-3 run. From that point on, the Warriors were not challenged in cruising to their ninth victory of the season and seventh in their last eight games.
Junior Tosha Wilson (Madras, Ore.), sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.), and junior Kendall Dionne (Brownsville, Ore.) accompanied Schaumburg with 12, 11, and 10 points respectively. Freshman Emily Kindle (Stayton, Ore.) led Corban with 8 rebounds, while Dionne, Steigleman, and junior Brianne Carras (Olympia, Wash.) pulled down 6, 4, and 4 rebounds respectively.
Corban shot 34-for-65 (52.3%) from the field, while Western Oregon shot 22-for-58 (37.9%).
Leada Berkey led the host Wolves with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Kori Seymour and Kaila Hawley added 12 and 8 points respectively. Kate Potter, Nikki Scott, and Hawley aided Berkey on the boards with 4, 3, and 3 rebounds respectively.
With the win, Corban improves to 9-2 overall, while Western Oregon falls to 0-4. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, December 16th, when they have a rematch with Western Oregon beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
