SALEM, Ore. – Junior Jessi Schaumburg (Redmond, Ore.) scored a team-high 13 points in leading Corban’s women’s basketball team to a 79-55 win over Oregon Tech on Saturday night, as the Warriors extended their winning streak to five games.

Suprisingly the undermanned Hustlin’ Owls jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first four minutes, but junior Tosha Wilson (Madras, Ore.) sparked the Warriors with three steals and four assists as Corban reeled off 13 unanswered points and cruised to a 43-25 halftime lead.

Along with Schaumburg (pictured right), juniors Jessica Cox (Bridgeport, Calif.) and Brianne Carras (Olympia, Wash.) added 12 and 11 points respectively.  Freshman and Cascade High School graduate Emily Kindle (Stayton, Ore.) and junior Kendall Dionne (Brownsville, Ore.) pulled down a team-high 6 rebounds for Corban, while sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore) and Wilson grabbed 5 rebounds each.

Ahead by 18 (43-25) points at halftime, Corban came out and continued the defensive pressure over the final twenty minutes en route to their second conference victory of the season.  Wilson paced the Warriors defense with four steals, while handing out 7 assists at the offensive end.  Dionne added another 6 assists for the Warriors.

The Warriors shot 33-for-67 (49.3%) from the field, while the visiting Hustlin’ Owls shot 25-for-68 (36.8%).

Samatha Gilbert led all players with 21 points for Oregon Tech, while Laura Ivancie, Amanda Doherty, and Kelsi Haylett added 9, 8, and 8 points respectively.  Ashley DuBrey grabbed a game-high 9 rebounds for the Hustlin’ Owls, while Doherty and two other Oregon Tech players pulled down 8 and 5 rebounds respectively.  Due to injuries, Oregon Tech suited only 8 players.

With the win, Corban improves to 7-1 overall, 2-0 in conference.  Oregon Tech falls to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in conference.  The Warriors are next in action on Tuesday, December 6th, when they meet cross-town neighbor Willamette beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.  This will be the second meeting of the season between these two teams, as Corban defeated the Bearcats, 72-50, on November 22nd.
