Warriors sweep Thanksgiving Tournament with win over Dominican

OAKLAND, Calif. – Carrying a two-game winning streak, Corban’s women’s basketball team ended their holiday road trip to Northern California with a win over Dominican (Calif.), 62-53, to close out the Holy Names Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday evening.

Riding a high from their victory on Friday against the NAIA’s No. 7-ranked Holy Names, the Warriors swept the tournament behind a game-high 15 point performance from sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.).  Steigleman, who was the 2004-2005 conference Freshman of the Year, currently leads the team in scoring with 75 points (avg. 12.5).

Along with Steigleman, junior Jessi Schaumburg (Redmond, Ore.) and sophomore Brianne Carras (Olympia, Wash.) scored 10 and 9 points respectively.  Junior Kendall Dionne (Brownsville, Ore.) led the Warriors in rebounds with 5, while fellow junior Tosha Wilson (Madras, Ore.) and sophomore Katie Dennis (Damascus, Ore.) grabbed 4 rebounds each.

Corban shot 24-for-48 (50.0%) from the field, while Dominican shot 18-for-47 (38.3%).

Chelsea Weighall and Rose Hamilton led the Penguins with 11 points each, while Olivia Williams added 10 points.

With the win, Corban improves to 5-1 overall, while Dominican falls to 2-4 overall.  The Warriors are next in action on Friday, December 2nd, when they kick off the 2005-2006 conference schedule against the Red Raiders of Southern Oregon beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
