Quartet shoots Warriors into conference tournament semifinals

SALEM, Ore. – Junior Jessi Schaumburg (Redmond, Ore.) led a contingent of four in double figures scoring a team-high 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field, as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) No. 33-ranked Corban women’s basketball team defeated Northwest, 82-61, to advance to the Cascade Collegiate Conference post-season tournament semifinals.
Schaumburg scored 13 first half points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field, including a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the 3-point line. The 5-foot-8 Redmond High School graduate scored 5 of the Warriors’ first 7 points and 11 of Corban’s first 17 points.
Sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) knocked in 15 points, while freshman Emily Kindle (Stayton, Ore.), and junior Kendall Dionne (Brownsville, Ore.) chipped in with 10 points each. Junior Tosha Wilson (Madras, Ore.) added 9 points and a game-high 10 assists.
Over the first twenty minutes, the game was tied 4 times with the last deadlock coming with 14:15 remaining on a Brittany Bowsher bucket for Northwest. The Warriors took the lead for good when Wilson hit a jumper with 13:42 left and never trailed after that.
Corban (25-6 overall, 14-4 CCC) shot 28-for-67 (41.8%) from the field, including 6-for-16 (37.5%) from beyond the arc, and 20-for-24 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
Northwest (12-19 overall, 7-11 CCC) was led by Sam McCracken’s game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Kim Sandberg and Cassie Snyder scored 12 and 11 points. The Eagles shot 22-for-63 (34.9%) from the field and 13-for-19 (68.4%) from the free throw line.
The Warriors continue their run through the post-season tournament on Friday, February 24th, when they match up against the tournament’s No. 2 seed Eastern Oregon beginning at 7:00 p.m. in La Grande. Both teams split their two meeting this season and finished conference play with an identical 14-4 record.
