Warriors clinch third seed in post-season tournament with win

ASHLAND, Ore. – Sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) led all players with 17 points, as Corban’s women’s basketball team led wire-to-wire in a win over Southern Oregon, 62-55, to finish the regular season.
With the win, Corban (24-6 overall, 14-4 CCC) secured the number three seed for this week’s Cascade Collegiate Conference post-season tournament and will host the tournament’s No. 6-seeded Northwest on Tuesday, February 21st, beginning at 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
The Warriors led 33-24 at halftime and held off a second-half Raider rallies that cut the margin to five (40-35) with 14:34 remaining and to seven (54-47) with three minutes left.
Corban zoomed out to a 14-4 lead in a cold-shooting opening eight minutes of play, and both teams finished with 35-percent field goal percentages in a defensive-oriented contest.
Junior Brianne Carras (Olympia, Wash.) added 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Warriors.
Southern Oregon (12-17 overall, 5-13 CCC) was led by Chelsey Zimmerman’s 15 points, while Andi Peterson added 10 and Emily Brough collected 11 rebounds.
The Warriors enter the post-season tournament as the defending champions and will begin their quest for the 2nd of the conference’s two automatic berths to the NAIA Division II tournament on Tuesday.
