Trio shoots Warriors to fifth straight win over Northwest Christian

SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.), junior Brianne Carras (Olympia, Wash.), and junior Jessi Schaumburg (Redmond, Ore.) shot a combined 16-for-33 from the field en route to scoring 39 points, as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) No. 26-ranked Corban women’s basketball team defeated Northwest Christian, 70-49, on Saturday night.
Steigleman paced all players with 17 points, while Schaumburg and Carras scored 12 and 10 points respectively. Senior Erin Plotts (Mill City, Ore.) added 9 points, while freshman Emily Kindle (Stayton, Ore.) recorded 8 points and a game-high 7 rebounds.
Corban led by as many as 25 points with 3:03 remaining and did not trail after the 17:44 mark of the first half when they trailed by 3 (7-4). The Warriors shot 27-for-56 (48.2%) from the field, including 7-for-17 (41.2%) from behind the 3-point line and 9-for-11 (81.8%) from the free throw line.
Early in the first half, the Warriors out rebounded the visiting Beacons, 19-5, but Northwest Christian crashed the boards and ended the game pulling down 2 more boards (33-31) thanks to 10 offensive rebounds.
Northwest Christian was led by Emily Gray’s 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. McKenzie Gambee was the only other Beacon in double figures with 14 points and a game-high 7 rebounds.
The Beacons shot 19-for-48 (39.6%) from the field, including 5-for-13 (38.5%) from behind the 3-point line and 6-for-14 (42.9%) from the free throw line.
The Warriors have won four straight games and 18 of their last 21 games, including 8 of their last 9 Cascade Collegiate Conference games.
With the win, Corban improves to 20-4 overall, while Northwest Christian falls to 12-9 overall. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, February 3rd, when they travel to Kirkland, Washington, for a match up with Northwest University beginning at 5:30 p.m.
