Steigleman shoots Warriors to win over Cavaliers of Concordia

SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) shot 7-for-9 from the field and 1-for-2 from the free throw line en route to a game-high 16 points, as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ (NAIA) No. 26-ranked Corban women’s basketball team defeated Concordia, 70-50, on Saturday evening.
As a team, the Warriors shot 30-for-58 (51.7%) from the field and handed out a season-high 26 assists en route to winning their 10th conference game of the season and third game in a row.
Along with Steigleman, juniors Brianne Carras (Olympia, Wash.) and Jessi Schaumburg (Redmond, Ore.) recorded 13 points each, while sophomore Mandy Peterson (Portland, Ore.) and Carras led Corban with a team-high 4 rebounds.
Corban shot 57.1% (16-for-28) from the field in the first half, as they opened up a 14-point lead (39-25) and then cruised over the final twenty minutes outscoring the visiting Cavaliers by 6 (31-25).
Concordia was 21-for-55 (38.2%) from the field, as Jessica Hahner led the Cavaliers with 12 points off the bench. Nicole Jamieson, Paula Sayen, Kristin Gunderson, and Joyce Oniah added 9, 6, 6, and 6 points respectively, while Denise Benedict grabbed a game-high 8 boards.
The Warriors have won 17 of their last 20 games, including 8 of their last 9 Cascade Collegiate Conference games.
With the win, Corban improves to 19-4 overall, 10-2 in CCC play. Concordia falls to 10-11 overall, 4-6 in CCC play. The Warriors will take a one-game break from conference action on Saturday, January 28th, when they host the Beacons of Northwest Christian beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
