Carras carries Warriors to come-from-behind win over Eastern Oregon

SALEM, Ore. – Junior Brianne Carras (Olympia, Wash.) scored a game-high 21 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field, as the NAIA’s No. 27-ranked Corban women’s basketball team came-from-behind to defeat Eastern Oregon, 73-66, on Saturday night.
Trailing by 10 (48-38) at the half, the Warriors came out and shot 14-for-36 (38.9%) over the final twenty minutes and held the Mountaineers to 8-for-27 (29.6%) from the field. Junior Tosha Wilson (Madras, Ore.) and senior Erin Plotts (Mill City, Ore.) kick started the Warriors’ comeback when the duo hit a jumper in the lane and then recorded a steal and an assist on the next play to put Corban up by 3 (64-61). Following back-to-back EOU jumpers and a free throw, Corban was looking at a 1-point deficit (65-64) with 6:30 remaining. Freshman Emily Kindle (Stayton, Ore.) put the Warriors up for good when she put back a missed lay-up with 6:00 left. Over the final 6-plus minutes, Corban did not allow Eastern Oregon to make a field goal, as the visiting Mountaineers scored 1 point (via a free throw) over the stretch en route to Corban securing the much needed 7-point win.
Sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.), junior Kendall Dionne (Brownsville, Ore.), and Kindle scored 13, 12, and 12 points, while Carras recorded a game-high 13 rebounds for the Warriors.
Corban shot 29-for-67 (43.3%) from the field, while Eastern Oregon shot 28-for-62 (45.2%). The difference came from the free throw line where the Warriors owned a 12-4 margin in made free throws.
Heidi Horobiowski led Eastern Oregon with 18 points (all in the first half), as she was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, including 2-for-2 from behind the 3-point line, in the first half. Over the final twenty minutes, the Mountaineers’ leading scorer was 0-for-7 from the field and 0-for-2 from the free throw line. Andra Peterson and Christie Weaver added 12 and 11 points, while Adria Layne led the Mountaineers with 10 rebounds.
With the win, Corban improves to 18-4 overall, 9-2 in CCC play. Eastern Oregon falls to 12-7 overall, 6-4 in CCC play. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, January 27th, when they host the Cavaliers of Concordia beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
