SALEM, Ore. – Sophomore Jessica Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) scored a team-high 15 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field, as Corban’s women’s basketball team kicked off the second half of the Cascade Collegiate Conference schedule with a 53-45 win over Albertson College of Idaho on Friday night.
Coming off a week in which the Warriors dropped from 16th to 27th in the latest NAIA Division II coaches’ poll, Corban knew that tonight would be a tough game and if they came out an executed properly then things should go their way.
After a season-low 18 first half points, Corban came out flying and shot 13-for-26 (50.0%) from the field and outscored the visiting Lady ‘Yotes by 9 (35-24) en route to the 7-point win.
Despite struggling from beyond the 3-point line, the Warriors, who made only 1-out-of-12 from long range, made up for it on the boards as they out rebounded the Lady ‘Yotes, 45-33, including a 12-10 advantage on the offensive glass.
Junior Brianne Carras (Olympia, Wash.) was the only other Warrior to score in double figures with 10 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Freshman Emily Kindle (Stayton, Ore.) added 8 points, while junior Tosha Wilson (Madras, Ore.) tallied 7 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.
Corban shot 21-for-54 (38.9%) from the field, while Albertson shot 12-for-51 (23.5%).
Whitney Clark led all players with 19 points for Albertson, while Kim Strunk added 9 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
With the win, Corban improves to 17-4 overall, 8-2 in CCC play. Albertson falls to 10-10 overall, 4-5 in CCC play. The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, January 21st, when they host the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Corban will be looking to avenge an earlier 20-point loss to Eastern Oregon earlier this season in La Grande.
