Howe is selected to the Academic All-America First Team

SALEM, Ore. - Receiving one of the country's most prestigious athletic and academic awards, Western Baptist volleyball standout Liz Howe (SR, Brooks, Ore. / Gervais HS) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Team.

Howe was one of six players named to the first team of District VIII, consisting of NAIA, NCAA II and III institutions in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia.

Howe, an English major, is the only NAIA representative on the first team. Southern Oregon's Lindsey Aitchison and Concordia's Amanda Larsen were second-team selections - also affiliated with the NAIA and in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

Western Baptist's 6-foot outside hitter is currently second in the conference in kills (4.37) and seventh in digs (3.16) per game. Howe is second in program history in career kills (1,583), fourth in aces (135) and eighth in digs (944). She has been a NAIA All-Region I performer the past two seasons.

The Warriors (16-10) are heading into the conference tournament playoffs this weekend, hosted by Southern Oregon. The tourney victor receives an automatic berth to the regional tournament at Lewis-Clark State, Nov. 20-22.
