Howe is selected to the Academic All-America First
Team
SALEM, Ore. - Receiving one of the country's most prestigious athletic
and academic awards, Western Baptist volleyball standout
Liz Howe (SR, Brooks, Ore. / Gervais HS) has been named to
the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic
All-America Team.
Howe was one of six players named to the first team of District VIII,
consisting of NAIA, NCAA II and III institutions in Alaska, Arizona,
California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British
Columbia.
Howe, an English major, is the only NAIA representative on the first
team. Southern Oregon's Lindsey Aitchison and Concordia's Amanda Larsen
were second-team selections - also affiliated with the NAIA and in the
Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Western Baptist's 6-foot outside hitter is currently second in the
conference in kills (4.37) and seventh in digs (3.16) per game. Howe
is second in program history in career kills (1,583), fourth in aces
(135) and eighth in digs (944). She has been a NAIA All-Region I performer
the past two seasons.
The Warriors (16-10) are heading into the conference tournament playoffs
this weekend, hosted by Southern Oregon. The tourney victor receives
an automatic berth to the regional tournament at Lewis-Clark State,
Nov. 20-22.
