KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -
Playing its final match of the season, Corban's women's volleyball team gave the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech everything that it had but fell in three games (29-31, 18-30, 27-30) as junior Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) recorded a team-best nine kills on Saturday.
Corban ends its season at 12-14 overall (10-10 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play), while the region tournament-bound Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech improve to 23-10 overall (15-5 in CCC action).
The Warriors came out in Game #1 with an early 8-3 lead before the host Owls could take its first lead of the match at 12-11. The game was tied at 21-all before the Warriors went on a four-point run to go up 25-21 and see Tech call a timeout.
Following the break in action OIT's sister combo of Katie Fuller and Beth Fuller came alive, combining for four kills and a block during a Tech 7-0 run to give the Owls a 28-25 lead. Another kill by Beth Fuller made it game point, but Corban would tie the game at 29-apiece. Tech’s Katie Fuller once again put down a kill to go up one and a combo block by Nicole Andrews and Anna Leal would end it at 31-29.
Corban once again held an early lead in Game #2 at 13-12, but Tech would reel off six in a row to go up 18-13 and not look back, as they would cruise to the win, 30-18.
Tech never trailed in the third and final game and held a 14-6 advantage and a 29-22 lead late in game three. Corban would make a comeback and cut the lead to two points at 29-27, but a set to Jackie Kosinski would end the game and give the Lady Owls the win, 30-27, in three games.
Along with Reeher, fellow junior Rashelle Davenport (Kalama, Wash.) added seven kills, while sophomore setter Amy Thompson (Oregon City, Ore.) recorded a team-best 31 assists and senior Caylin Bankston (La Grande, Ore.) finished in double digit with a team-high 10 digs.
Oregon Tech’s Andrews ended with a match-high 13 kills while both Katie Fuller and Michelle Klaja would tally 10 kills each. Setters Lizzie Law and Katie Coburn combined for 49 assists, 28 and 21 respectively, while Krystie Vea gathered 13 digs followed by Kelsey Russell with 12.
