SALEM, Ore. – Junior Nina Clanton (Hillsboro, Ore.) led Corban College with a match-high 14 kills and freshman Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) recorded another 13 kills in the Warriors’ 3-1 (32-34, 30-15, 30-22, 30-23) win over Concordia on Friday night inside C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
On a night where Corban College’s faithful helped raise over one thousand dollars to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the Warriors started the first game slow after a week layoff, falling behind by 7 points (13-6), but battled back to give the visiting Cavaliers a run before losing 34-32.

In game three, things continued for Corban thanks to a match-high 17 kills and a match-high hitting percentage (.297), while Concordia managed 10 kills with 7 hitting errors. Despite gaining a 6-point lead (10-4), the Warriors had to fight for the win, but pulled it out by 8 points (30-22).
In the fourth and final game, both teams battled back and forth with neither team gaining more than a 2 point cushion, before Corban used the strong serving arm of sophomore Caylin Goss (La Grande, Ore.) and reeled off six straight points to take a 4-point lead (22-18). There, the Warriors maintained control and ended the match with a 7-point win (30-23).
Besides Clanton and Reeher, seniors Ashley Walbridge (Troutdale, Ore.) and Bailey Willcox (Jackson, Wyo.) recorded 8 kills each. Walbridge led all players with a match-high 44 assists for the Warriors, while junior libero Becky Horn (Troutdale, Ore.) anchored Corban’s back line with a match and season-high 38 digs.
Corban recorded 57 kills with 34 hitting errors (.111 hitting percentage), while Concordia recorded 44 kills with 34 hitting errors (.052 hitting percentage).
Brady Wallenborn led the Cavaliers with a team-high 12 kills, while Krista Ekberg and Jenna Weimer recorded 10 and 8 kills respectively.
With the win, Corban improves to 4-9, 4-5 in Cascade Collegiate play. Concordia falls to 8-9 overall, 4-5 in Cascade Collegiate play. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, October 7th, when they travel east to take on the Coyotes of Albertson College beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Caldwell, Idaho. |
