Warriors fall to Oregon Institute of Technology in five games

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Freshman Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) led Corban College with a match and season-high 22 kills, but it was not enough as the Warriors suffered a heart breaking loss, 3-2 (30-25, 31-29, 25-30, 25-30, 7-15), to Oregon Institute of Technology on Saturday evening.
The Warriors won the first two games, but could not close out the Hustlin’ Owls, as they won three straight games and took the nearly two-hour match.
Corban took advantage of a poor hitting OIT team over the first two games, as the Warriors recorded a combined 24 kills, while committing 15 attack errors (.115 hitting percentage). The host Hustlin’ Owls recorded 27 kills, but committed 25 hitting errors over the first two games including 16 in the second game.
Over the final three games, Oregon Tech seemed to regroup and produced positive hitting percentages (.273, .188, and .304), while Corban stayed in positive numbers until the fifth and final game (.068, .000, and -.083).
Along with Reeher’s career-high in kills, juniors Stacey Casebier (Medford, Ore.) and Hallie McNaughton (Bend, Ore.) recorded 9 and 8 kills respectively. Senior setter Ashley Walbridge (Troutdale, Ore.) led the Warriors with a team-high 45 assists, while junior libero Becky Horn (Troutdale, Ore.) bounced back from a sub-par performance twenty-four hours earlier and anchored the Warriors’ back line with a team-high 28 digs.
Four different Warriors – Horn, Walbridge, McNaughton, and junior Nina Clanton (Hillsboro, Ore.) – recorded double-digit digs totals, as they recorded 28, 13, 10, and 14 digs respectively.
Marcie Mitzner led Oregon Tech with a team-high 19 kills, while Michelle Klaja and Krista Wooley recorded 14 and 12 kills respectively. Megan Albertson led all players with a match-high 54 assists for Oregon Tech, while Nicole Morozzo anchored the Hustlin’ Owls back line with a match-high 29 digs.
With the loss, Corban falls to 3-9 overall, 3-5 in Cascade Collegiate play. Oregon Tech improves to 10-4 overall, 6-1 in Cascade Collegiate play. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, September 30th, when they host Concordia beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
