PORTLAND, Ore. – In a conference match-up with Cascade Collegiate Conference rivals Concordia, Corban's women's volleyball team fell in four games (18-30, 25-30, 30-27, 19-30) to the Cavaliers on Friday night.
Despite 11 kills each from seniors Nina Clanton (Hillsboro, Ore.) and Hallie Hofferd (Bend, Ore.), the Warriors ran into a Cavalier squad that was playing its second match of the day.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, Concordia dropped its match against NCAA Division II member Dixie State (UT) in three games (28-30, 27-30, 25-30).
In the lone game that Corban won, the Warriors jumped out to a 5-1 lead following a service ace by Clanton and extended its lead to as much as 9 points (15-6) following a bad set by the Cavaliers. The host Cavaliers tied the game at 25-all before Corban took the game by 3 points (30-27) following kills by Hofferd and sophomore Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.).
Reeher ended the match with 9 kills, while sophomore Jessica McGraw (Gaston, Ore.) added 6 kills and a team-high 22 assists. Reigning conference and regional Libero of the Week, senior Becky Horn (Troutdale, Ore.) anchored Corban's back line with a match-high 20 digs. Following three straight 30-plus dig matches, last season's co-Libero of the Year was held well below her season average of 7.68 digs per game.
Concordia was led by Erin Murphy and Mariana Toscano's match-high 16 kills each, while setter Andrea Brandt guided the Cavalier offense with a match-high 51 assists.
Corban is now 2-8 overall, 0-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Concordia improves to 3-5 overall, 3-2 in CCC action. The Warriors will take a break from conference action on Saturday, Sept. 16th, when they host NCAA Division II member Dixie State of Utah beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
