Warriors return to winning ways with victory over Cascade

PORTLAND, Ore. – Junior Nina Clanton (Hillsboro, Ore.) recorded a team-high 16 kills in leading Corban College to a 3-1 (30-21, 30-26, 31-33, 30-15) victory over Cascade College on Tuesday night.
Tonight’s win snapped a mini-two match losing streak and put the Warriors on the path to recovery as the heart of the Cascade Collegiate Conference season is quickly approaching.
Along with Clanton, freshman sensation Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) and junior Hallie McNaughton (Bend, Ore.) recorded 15 and 13 kills respectively. Senior setter Ashley Walbridge (Troutdale, Ore.) recorded a match and season-high 51 assists, while junior libero Becky Horn (Troutdale, Ore.) anchored the Warriors’ back line with a team-high 16 digs.
In game one, Corban used 17 kills compared to 9 by the host Thunderbirds en route to a hitting percentage of .270 and cruised to the 9-point victory (30-21).
In game two, the Warriors recorded a match-high 19 kills, but saw their hitting percentage take a slight dip (.256) thanks to 8 hitting errors, but still held on for the 4-point victory (30-26).
In game three, both teams produced 16 kills, while Corban committed 2 more hitting errors than Cascade, which led the 2-point win for the Thunderbirds (33-31).
In the fourth and final game, Corban recorded their highest hitting percentage of the night (.321) thanks to 13 kills and a mere 4 hitting errors, while Cascade recorded the lowest hitting percentage of the night (-.032) thanks to 9 kills and 10 hitting errors. Thanks to the difference in hitting percentages, the Warriors cruised to a 15-point victory (30-15) and walked away from the Thunderdome with the 4-game win.
Danielle Selvidge led all players with a match-high 17 kills for Cascade, while Tiffany Hornbeck recorded a team-high 37 assists and Jennifer Braceros anchored the Thunderbird back line with a match-high 19 digs.
With the win, Corban improves to 2-6 overall, 2-2 in CCC play, while Cascade falls to 0-5 overall, 0-4 in CCC play. The Warriors are back in action on Friday, September 16th, when they host Northwest beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. |
