September 10, 2005

SALEM, Ore. – Junior Stacey Casebier (Medford, Ore.) led Corban College with 13 kills, while junior Nina Clanton (Hillsboro, Ore.) and freshman Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) added 10 and 9 kills respectively, but it was not enough as the Warriors fell 3-1 (18-30, 20-30, 32-30, 30-32) to Albertson College on Saturday night.

Albertson claimed a quick two-game advantage before Corban came from behind and used the energy from the Warrior faithful en route to winning the third game by two points (32-30).  The Warriors pushed the visiting Coyotes to the limit extending both games three and four past the 30-point minimum.

In the fourth and final game, Corban found themselves up by 6 points (23-17) and began trading points with Albertson until the Warriors took a slight 4 point lead (28-24).  Behind strong serving from Bailey Wood, Albertson climbed back into the game and tied it at 28-apiece before both teams reach down just a little bit further and went beyond the minimum limit.  A kill by the Coyotes’ Fran Hartman ended the match and sent Albertson back to Idaho with their fourth-straight victory.

Besides the trio of Casebier, Clanton, and Reeher, junior Hallie McNaughton (Bend, Ore.) and junior Becky Horn (Troutdale, Ore.) recorded 8 and 5 kills respectively.  Senior setter Ashley Walbridge (Troutdale, Ore.) led the Warriors with 37 assists, while Horn anchored Corban’s back line with a match-high 28 digs.

Kathryn Ely led Albertson with a match-high 22 kills, while Hartman and Katie Hogue added 16 and 14 kills respectively.  Erin Cherrington led all players with a match-high 56 assists, while Wood anchored the Coyotes’ back line with a team-high 25 digs.

With the win, Albertson improves to 6-2 overall, 3-1 in CCC play, while Corban falls to 1-6 overall, 1-2 in CCC play.  Corban is next in action on Tuesday, September 13th, when they travel north to Portland for a match up with Cascade College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
