Warriors open conference season with sweep of Warner Pacific

PORTLAND, Ore. - Junior Nina Clanton (Hillsboro, Ore.) recorded a team-high 10 kills in leading Corban College to an opening Cascade Conference sweep of Warner Pacific, 3-0 (30-21, 30-19, 30-11), Tuesday evening.
“The girls played hard through every point,” said sixteen-year head coach Tracy Smith. “I am very proud of how the ladies persevered throughout the entire match.”
Along with Clanton, freshman Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) and junior Stacey Casebier (Medford, Ore.) added 8 and 7 kills respectively.
Throughout the three games, the Warriors committed only 13 hitting errors (.193 hitting percentage), while forcing Warner Pacific into 22 hitting errors.
In game one, Corban recorded 12 kills, while committing a mere 4 hitting errors en route to a hitting percentage of .182. In game two, the Warriors recorded a match-high 16 kills, while recording a mere 5 hitting errors en route to a match-high hitting percentage of .244. In the third and final game, Corban recorded 8 kills, while committing only 4 hitting errors en route to a hitting percentage of .133.
Senior setter Ashley Walbridge (Troutdale, Ore.) led the Warriors with a match-high 32 assists, while junior libero Becky Horn (Troutdale, Ore.) anchored Corban’s back line with a match-high 27 digs.
Michelle Allen led Warner Pacific with a team-high 9 kills and 13 digs, while Kaylee Stone recorded a team-high 15 assists.
With the win, Corban improves to 1-4 overall, 1-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Warner Pacific falls to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Warriors are next in action on Friday, September 9th, when they host Eastern Oregon beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. |
