IRVINE, Calif. – In its third match at the Crowne Plaza Labor Day Festival, Corban's women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season over William Woods, 3-1 (30-22, 19-30, 31-29, 34-32), on Saturday at Vanguard University of Southern California.

Junior Rashelle Davenport (Kalama, Wash.) led all players with 14 kills, while senior Ashley Lange (Salem, Ore.) and junior Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) added 12 and 7 kills each.

In the opening game, Corban built a quick three-point lead (4-1) before watching it disappear. William Woods went up by a mere point (9-8) following a service ace before both teams battled back and forth for 19 straight points. With the score in favor of William Woods (20-16), the Warriors reeled off eight straight points to take a 24-20 lead. Over the final eight points, Corban out-scored its opponent by four (6-2) en route to winning the first game, 30-22.

In Game #2, Corban found itself down 6-3 and 13-9 before calling the first timeout of the game to re-group. Unfortunately, William Woods continued to apply the pressure and built its lead to eight points (21-13) before first-year head coach Heather Dunn called her team's second and final timeout of the game. Trailing by nearly double-digits, the Warriors were unable to comeback and dropped the second game by a final score of 30-19.

In the third game, Corban took an early lead (10-6) before watching William Woods take its own lead (22-16). The Warriors rallied to take Game #3 thanks to a closing 15-7 run led by four kills by Lange over the final 22 points and helped Corban grabs its first 2-1 lead of any match so far this season, 31-29.

In the fourth and final game, the Warriors grabbed an early lead (12-5) before William Woods used a 19-12 run to knot the game at 24-all. Corban then scored four straight points coming out of a timeout to take a 28-24 lead, but William Woods battled back to tie the game at 29-all following three straight match point chances for the Warriors. A service ace by William Woods handed them their first opportunity to tie the match at two games each, but Corban jumped on the back of Reeher and took the match thanks to a kill and service ace that resulted in a tight 34-32 win for the Warriors.

Along with the total number of kills by the trio of Davenport, Lange, and Reeher, sophomore setter Amy Thompson (Oregon City, Ore.) ended with a match-high 39 assists for the Warriors. Junior Margo Wyatt (Dufur, Ore.) anchored Corban's back line with a season and match-high 27 digs, while Reeher and senior Caylin Bankston (La Grande, Ore.) added 17 and 10 digs respectively.

William Woods was led by Sarah Anderson with a team-high 13 kills, while Emily Edens and Kristin Smith added 12 and 8 kills respectively. Molly Dougherty led the squad with 20 assists, while Kristina Perry anchored William Woods' back row with a team-high 17 digs.

With the win, Corban improves to 1-2 overall, while William Woods falls to 0-3 overall. The Warriors conclude their play at the Crowne Plaza Labor Day Festival this afternoon against Montana Tech beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa, California.
