Warriors end opening day at CUI Labor Day Festival

Junior Chelsea Reeher posted a two-match total of 18 kills to lead the Warriors, as Corban opened the Crowne Plaza Labor Day Festival with back-to-back set-backs to Carroll College and Indiana Institute of Technology.

IRVINE, Calif. – With the first day of the Crowne Plaza Labor Day Festival in the books, Corban's women's volleyball team dropped its final match of the afternoon to Indiana Institute of Technology, 3-0 (22-30, 20-30, 20-30), on Friday at Vanguard University of Southern California.
Junior Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) led the Warriors with 10 kills, while junior Rashelle Davenport (Kalama, Wash.) and senior Ashley Lange (Salem, Ore.) added five kills each.
In the opening game, Corban fell behind by three points (4-1) before battling back and taking a one-point lead (6-5) following a service ace by Reeher. After the game was knotted at 7-all, Indiana Tech went on a 7-0 run to earn a 14-7 lead and then grabbed its largest lead of the game at 28-20 before closing out the Warriors, 30-22.
In Game #2, Corban fell behind early (5-0) before battling back within a point (8-7). Indiana Tech continued to apply the pressure and extended its lead to as much as ten points (25-15) before taking the middle game by a final tally of 30-20.
In the third game and final game, Corban grabbed a 2-point advantage (3-1) before watching it evaporate into a 10-5 lead for Indiana Tech. The Warriors got to within four points (20-16) following a kill by Reeher, but Indiana Tech continued to apply the pressure and used a 10-4 run to close out the game and match, 30-20.
Along with Reeher's kill total, sophomore Amy Thompson (Oregon City, Ore.) and freshman Heather Anderson (Corbett, Ore.) combined to hand out 21 assists. Thompson led the Warriors with 15 assists, while Anderson added 6. Junior Margo Wyatt (Dufur, Ore.) anchored Corban's back line with a match-high 11 digs, while Reeher and Anderson added 8 and 6 respectively.
Indiana Tech was led by Korinne Lewis with a match-high 11 kills, while Ashtyn Humerickhouse and Erin McCann added 9 and 8 kills respectively. Jenny Vogelgesang led all players with a match-high 32 assists, while Morgan Anson and Liz Lykowski turned in a team-high 8 digs each from the back row.
Corban opens its season at 0-2 overall, while Indiana Tech improves to 4-2 overall. The Warriors continue their play at the Crowne Plaza Labor Day Festival on Saturday, September 1st, against William Woods beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa, California.
