| Warriors open at Holiday Inn Classic in Lewiston, Idaho

SALEM, Ore. - Corban College women’s volleyball opened their 2005 season on the road at the Holiday Inn Classic, which was hosted by Lewis-Clark State College, on Friday and Saturday.
The Warriors opened the tournament against host Lewis-Clark State and battled through a tough five-game match, but came away on the losing end, 3-2 (30-23, 30-25, 22-30, 28-30, 12-15). Freshman Chelsea Reeher (Powell Butte, Ore.) led the Warriors with a team-high 16 kills, while senior Bailey Willcox (Jackson, Wyo.) and junior Nina Clanton (Hillsboro, Ore.) added 12 and 11 kills respectively. Senior setter Ashley Walbridge (Troutdale, Ore.) led Corban with a team-high 42 assists, while junior Becky Horn (Troutdale, Ore.) anchored the Warriors’ backline with a match-high 29 digs.
Later in the day, Corban took the court once again to face Carroll College and thanks to a tough 3-1 (30-28, 30-32, 26-30, 22-30) loss, the Warriors literally shut down the gymnasium. Reeher led the Warriors with 13 kills, while Clanton and junior Hallie McNaughton (Bend, Ore.) recorded 8 kills each. Walbridge recorded a team-high 30 assists, while Horn anchored the Warriors’ back line with a team-high 12 digs.
Corban opened Saturday’s action with a match against Montana State-Northern and were handed a tough loss, 3-0 (25-30, 24-30, 25-30). Reeher led Corban with a team-high 8 kills, while McNaughton and Willcox recorded 7 and 6 kills respectively. Clanton led Corban with a team-high 5 assists, while Horn anchored the Warriors’ back line with a team-high 5 digs.
The Warriors ended the two-day, four-match tournament against Westminster and battled back and forth, but were defeated, 3-0 (31-33, 13-30, 29-31). For the fourth straight match, Reeher led the Warriors with a team-high 14 kills, while Willcox and sophomore Ashley Lange (Salem, Ore.) recorded 5 kills each. Walbridge led Corban with a team-high 29 assists, while Horn anchored the Warriors’ back line for the fourth straight match with 22 digs.
In the four matches, Reeher recorded 51 kills (avg. 3.40), while Willcox (30 kills), Clanton (27 kills), and McNaughton (25 kills) each recorded 25-or-more kills. Walbridge led Corban with 102 assists (avg. 6.80), while Horn recorded 68 digs (avg. 4.53).
Corban opens the season at 0-4 and returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 6th, when they open Cascade Conference play on the road at Warner Pacific beginning at 7:00 p.m. |
