EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Senior Danielle Jordan (Medford, Ore.) became the first-ever Warrior to run in an event final at the NAIA Championships, as the senior finished 15th overall in the 5,000 meter run Saturday behind a record-breaking performance at Ralph Korte Stadium.
After qualifying for today's final with the 15th fastest time in the semifinal race thanks to a time of 18:13.57, Jordan rebounded less than 24 hours later and completed the 5K event in a time of 18:26.65.
Jordan, who was running with an injury that has hindered her from training on the track over the past two weeks, was the lone Cascade Collegiate Conference runner (either male or female) to compete in the 5,000 meter final.
Despite her sub-19 minute performance, Jordan could not overcome the event winner, Alissa McKaig of Indiana Tech, who clocked a national championship record time of 19:39.04 which bettered the three-year-old mark by more than five seconds.
Jordan concludes her amazing two-year run as a Warrior, as the school-record holder in the 5,000 meter run after clocking a 17:35.80 earlier this season at the Willamette Invitational on April 5th at McCullough Stadium en route to meeting the NAIA's 'A' qualification standard.
Along with her cross country accolades, Jordan has completed in three NAIA Championships over the past two seasons. The senior ran in back-to-back NAIA Cross Country Championships as a junior and senior before making the trip this weekend to the "Prairie State" to conclude her collegiate running career.
Corban's track teams offically concluded their second full season of competition this weekend, as second-year head coach Norm Berney has 15 Warrior runners returning next season with hopes of making it back to the NAIA Championships.
