Warriors conclude regular season at WOU Twilight

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Corban's men's & women's track teams concluded the regular season on Friday at the Western Oregon Twilight and placed six different runners among the top 20 in five races with freshman Tera Stegner (Damascus, Ore.) earning the Warriors' highest finish of 9th in the 800 meter.

Along with her 2:22.56 time that placed her ninth overall in the 800 meter run, Stegner also finished 12th in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.56. Freshman Bernice Soto (Aumsville, Ore.) turned in a 16th place finish in the women's 1,500 meter run after crossing the finish line with a personal best time of 4:48.92.

In the women's 5,000 meter, both junior Sara Aikin (Lebanon, Ore.) and fellow junior Jill Nielsen (Baker City, Ore.) turned in personal records as they took 18th and 19th place finishes with respective times of 19:28.00 and 19:38.30.

For the men, freshman Jeffrey Schloemer (Mt. Vernon, Wash.) took 20th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:03.91, while sophomore Brian Beeson (Soldotna, Alaska) finished 31st in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:45.70. Sophomore Ben Snell (Spray, Ore.) edged out senior Thomas Berney (Oregon City, Ore.) in the 5,000 meter as the former completed the race with a 16:04.30 time and 36th place finish compared to the latter's 39th place time of 16:28.60.

"We felt really good about the people that performed and competed against some of the best from local D-I, D-II, D-III, NAIA, and community colleges," first year head track coach Norm Berney said. "Anytime you can get personal records it feels like a good meet and gives us confidence going into the conference championships in La Grande."

Corban’s track teams will compete in the Cascade Collegiate Conference championships in La Grande over the weekend of May 11th and 12th beginning at 4:00 p.m. on that Friday.
