Warriors turn in best all-around performance of season

PORTLAND, Ore. – Junior Jill Nielsen (Baker City, Ore.) and the Warriors' men's 4x800 meter team brought home the first titles of the spring season, as Corban's men's and women's track teams turned in their best performances of the track season so far on Friday at the Warner Pacific Mini-Meet

In the 3,000 meter, Nielsen narrowly beat out a pair of teammates -- junior Sara Aikin (Lebanon, Ore.) and freshman Bernice Soto (Aumsville, Ore.) -- to pick up her first track trophy of the season thanks to a time of 11:22.09. Meanwhile, Aikin and Soto completed the course in times of 11:24.95 and 11:32.22 respectively to sweep the medal stand positions.

Corban's 4x800 meter women's 'A' team that consisted of Nielsen, Soto, freshman Carli Moller (Vancouver, Wash.), and freshman Tera Stegner (Damascus, Ore.) finished second behind Northwest University with a time of 9:47.99. On the other hand, Corban's 'B' team -- freshman Rachel Brown (Madrid, Spain), freshman Natalie Meldrum (Winnemuca, Nev.), freshman Kacie Woolsey (Waldport, Ore.), and freshman Alyssa Powers (Goldendale, Wash.) -- completed the race in a time of 11:02.72 to place third overall.

On the men's side, sophomore Ben Snell (Spray, Ore.) concluded the 3,000 meter race in a time of 9:36.74 for a 4th place finish, while senior Thomas Berney (Oregon City, Ore.) and sophomore Jason Bernard (Salem, Ore.) finished the race in times of 9:46.61 and 9:57.36 respectively to earn 6th and 8th place finishes overall.

Corban's 'A' 4x800 meter team of Snell, Bernard, freshman Jeffrey Schloemer (Mt. Vernon, Wash.), and freshman Kristopher Cox (Bend, Ore.) brought home the first men's title of the season when the quartet combined for a time of 8:24.44 and bested the second-place team and meet-host Warner Pacific by more than twenty seconds.

As a team, the women's track members combined for a meet total of 38 points to finished 5th overall, while the men earned a combined total of 19 points during the meet to finish 7th.

Corban’s track teams will compete in its last meet of the regular season on Friday, April 27th, when they Warriors take part in the Western Oregon Twilight beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Monmouth.
