Warriors compete at annual Western Oregon Twilight

April 18, 2008

Corban sent six runners to the annual Western Oregon Twilight with two individuals and one team looking to qualify for the NAIA Championships.

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Freshman Ben Search (Battleground, Wash.) finished seventh in the 800 meter run to go along with junior Carli Moller's (Vancouver, Wash.) ninth place showing in the 1,500 meter run, as Corban's men's and women's track teams competed at the Western Oregon Twilight Friday at McArthur Field.

Running for the first time this season under the lights, Corban sent split squads to Portland for the Warner Pacific Mini-Meet and Monmouth for the WOU Twilight.

Moller began the night looking to earn the NAIA's "B" standard qualification mark in the 1,500 meter run, but came up nine seconds shy thanks to a time of 4:54.87 en route to finishing ninth overall behind a quintet of Oregon State and two unattached runners.

Immediately following Moller's showing in the women's 1,500 meter run, junior Jason Bernard (Salem, Ore.) stepped to the starting line for the men's 1,500 meter run. After the final runner crossed the finish line, Bernard had turned in a time of 4:17.12 to place 14th overall.

Eight events later, Search took part in the men's 800 meter run and turned in the Warriors' best individual performance of the night thanks to a seventh place showing in a time of 1:57.25. Unfortunately for Search, his performance was just over three seconds shy of meeting the NAIA's "B" qualification standard.

In the lone team event of the night, Corban's 'A' team finished fourth overall in the 4x400 meter relay as Bernard, freshman Travis Wells (Springfield, Ore.), Search, and junior Brian Beeson (Soldotna, Alaska) turned in a time of 3:36.88. Looking to be the third NAIA Championship qualifying mark of the night, the Warriors' relay team fell over 16 seconds shy of the "B" qualification standard.

Senior Danielle Jordan (Medford, Ore.) capped off the Warrior women's performances on the evening, as she took third place in the 5,000 meter run thanks to a time of 17:36.61. Jordan's performance nearly matched her school-record of 17:35.00, which was set earlier this season at the Willamette Invitational at McCullough Stadium in Salem. Currently, Jordan sits sixth and seventh respectively in the NAIA among all 5,000 meter runners.

Junior Ben Snell (Spray, Ore.) rounded out the Warriors' performers for the night, as he finished fifth in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 33:28.71. Snell's time was more than 90 seconds better than his previous personal best.

Corban's track teams will run again on Friday, April 25th, when the Warriors compete in the Concordia/Mt. Hood Invite beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.
