Trio of Warrior runners bring home titles at Mini-Meet

PORTLAND, Ore. – Senior Jill Nielsen (Baker City, Ore.), freshman Lauren Nolz (Salem, Ore.), and the Warriors' 4x800 meter relay team each won their respective races, as Corban's men's and women's track teams competed at the Warner Pacific Mini-Meet Friday at Marshall High School.
As a team, Corban finished second behind mini-meet host Warner Pacific thanks to the Warriors combined 66 points which is a team-high for the season.
Nolz began the evening with her first-ever collegiate victory in the 100 meter dash thanks to a time of 13.50, which was .05 seconds faster than Evergreen's Lindsay Farah. Along with Nolz, freshmen Allison Clark (Roseburg, Ore.) and Bianca Davis (Ontario, Ore.) finished in fourth and fifth place respectively in times of 15.45 and 15.56 respectively.
After registering her victory in the 100 meter dash, Nolz took the track again in the 200 meter dash and finished fourth overall in a time of 30.01. Nolz's ndividual finish was one spot better than Clark, who finished fifth thanks to a time of 32.14.
Freshman Ali Ghavami (Keizer, Ore.) competed in the 1,500 meter run and the 400 meter hurdles finishing third and second respectively. The freshman from McNary High School turned in times of 5:18.43 in the 1,500 meter before registering a finishing time of 1:34.90 in the 400 meter hurdles.
In the 3,000 meter race, Nielsen brought home her first-ever collegiate individual title in a time of 11:13.00 which was four seconds better than runner-up, Ana Casillas of Evergreen. Fellow senior Sara Aikin (Lebanon, Ore.) completed the race in a time of 11:45.00 to finish fifth overall.
In the 4x100 meter race, Corban's 'A' team finished as the runner-up in a time of 55.23 before coming back in the 4x800 meter race and bettered Warner Pacific's 'A' team by more than 14 seconds to bring home its first team title of the season.
On the men's side, freshman Nathan Moller (Vancouver, Wash.) competed in the 100 and 200 meter dash finishing 10th in both races in times of 12.55 and 25.18 respectively.
Fellow freshman Jason Hardrath (Baker City, Ore.) and senior Chad Hunsucker (Polson, Mont.) competed in the 3,000 meter run and finished 9th and 10th respectively. Hardrath turned in a time of 9:45.26 to register the best finish by a member of the Warrior men's program on the evening, while Hunsucker registered a time of 9:48.30 in his first official race of the spring season.
Corban's track teams will run again on Friday, April 25th, when the Warriors compete in the Concordia/Mt. Hood Invite beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.
