Warriors compete at annual Willamette Invitational

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Danielle Jordan (Medford, Ore.) set a personal record in the 5,000 meter run thanks to a time of 17:35.80, as Corban's men's and women's track teams competed at the annual two-day Willamette Invitational Friday and Saturday at McCullough Stadium.

Having already met the NAIA's "A" qualification standard (18:05.50 or less) for the national championship at the Charles Bowles Invitational two weeks ago, Jordan knocked off an amazing 17 seconds from her previous PR (17:53.39) as she finished Saturday's 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:35.80 to finish 10th overall. The senior set a previous personal best while running at NCAA Division I Liberty University at 17:36.00 during her sophomore season. Today's result was against 63 other runners, as Jordan finished behind a pair of NCAA Division I runners, five unattached outstanding club runners, and two NCAA Division III runners. Jordan was the top NAIA competitor, as she finished ahead of seven other fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference and NAIA-affiliated runners.

Along with Jordan's performance in the 5,000 meter run, fellow seniors Jill Nielsen (Baker City, Ore.) and Sara Aikin (Lebanon, Ore.) concluded the race in 46th and 49th place respectively. The duo ran the event in times of 19:40.21 and 20:12.91 respectively.

Along with the aforementioned trio, sophomore Tera Stegner (Damascus, Ore.) finished fourth in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:22.00 before turning in a seventh place showing in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:00.76.

Junior Carli Moller (Vancouver, Wash.) competed along side Stegner in the 800 meter run and finished fifth thanks to a time of 2:22.30 before turning in a personal record of 4:56.18 in the 1,500 meter run to finished ninth out of 21 runners.

A trio of freshman -- Karissa Griggs (Athena, Ore.), Erin Laughlin (Ephrata, Wash.), and Lauren Nolz (Salem, Ore.) -- rounded out the Warriors' female competitors, as Griggs turned in a 15th place showing in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:07.20. Meanwhile, Laughlin was 36th in the 800 meter run thanks to a time of 2:38.47 before Nolz turned in a 37th place showing in the 100 meter dash in a time of 14:19.00.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team turned in personal record of 4:16.20 to finish fifth overall behind a trio of community college teams and one NCAA Division II team. The Warriors' 4x400 team consisted of Griggs, Laughlin, Moller, and Stegner.

On the men's side, freshman Ben Search (Battleground, Wash.) turned in the best performance of the afternoon by an individual for the Warrior men's program thanks to a ninth place finish in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:59.53. Along with his 800 meter performance, Search also placed 50th in the 1,500 meter run thanks to a time of 4:19.27.

Fellow freshman David Anderson (Salem, Ore.), who was competing in his first race of the season, finished 14th in the 400 meter hurdles thanks to a time of 1:00.26.

Junior Jason Bernard (Salem, Ore.) turned in a showing of 17th in the 1,500 meter run thanks to a time of 2:02.60 and then helped lead the men's 4x400 meter relay team to a seventh place showing in a time of 3:31.69. The 4x400 meter relay team consisted of freshman Beau St. Peter (Keizer, Ore.), Anderson, Bernard, and Search.

St. Peter also competed in the 400 meter dash and finished in a time of 51:91.00 to finished 18th overall out of 42 runners.

Rounding out the competitors for the Warrior men, junior Ben Snell (Spray, Ore.), freshman Jason Hardrath (Baker City, Ore.), and freshman Kevin Cook (Ashland, Ore.) competed in the 5,000 meter run and finished 52nd (13:83.00), 68th (17:22.18), and 70th (17:50.26) respectively.

Corban's track teams will run again on Saturday, April 12th, at the Lewis & Clark Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Eldon Fix Track in Portland.
