Sailors wins again, Warrior lose wild one against Red Raiders

ASHLAND, Ore. – Junior Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) registered a game-high 10 strikeouts to extend her unbeaten streak to eight games, as Corban’s softball team split their doubleheader with Southern Oregon, 4-2 & 11-14, Friday at University Field.
With the win in the opener, Sailors improves her pitching record to 9-6 on season. Her last loss in the circle came on March 30th against the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech. In eight appearances since, Sailors has amassed six wins and two saves, compiling 59 strikeouts in 43.1 innings of work as the Warriors have won eight of twelve games in that span.
Game #1 - Corban 4, Southern Oregon 2
Following two scoreless innings, Corban took the lead in the top of the third inning as junior Megan Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) led off with a single for the Warriors before stealing second. After advancing to third on a single by Jennifer Kollaer (Albany, Ore.), Gaylord reached home on an error by the SOU catcher. The error also allowed Kollaer to reach third base after she had stolen second. The next batter -- senior Lindsey Batey (Aloha, Ore.) -- flied out to left field to bring Kollaer home for Corban’s second and final run of the inning.
The Red Raiders responded in the bottom of the inning, as Bailey Price hit a two-out RBI single to pull Southern Oregon within one (2-1).
The Warriors extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning, as Gaylord’s RBI single brought sophomore Kacie Emerick (Bellingham, Wash.) across the plate from second base.
In the top of the fifth inning, Batey hit a one-out single for the Warriors before reaching second base on a passed ball. Sophomore Josie Strange (Chehalis, Wash.) singled to advance Batey to third base before junior Karlee Sisler (Corvallis, Ore.) flied out to right field to bring Batey home for Corban’s fourth and final run of the game to lead by three (4-1).
Southern Oregon added one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Christa Simon singled to score shortstop Karla Alvarez for the final margin of 4-2.
Offensively, Corban was led by Gaylord and Batey, who tallied two hits and one RBI each, as six Warriors collected at least one hit. In the circle, Sailors turned in a complete-game performance, allowing a mere two runs (both earned) on seven hits.
Simon and Price collected one RBI each for SOU, as seven Red Raiders each registered one hit. Pitcher Alicia Caudill allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits in seven innings for Southern Oregon.
Game #2 - Southern Oregon 14, Corban 11
In the night cap, the bats came alive for both teams as the Warriors and Red Raiders combined for 25 runs on 34 hits.
Corban scored runs in the first, second, third, fourth, and sixth innings, while Southern Oregon amassed all its runs in the first three innings.
The Warriors scored four runs in the top of the second inning, as freshman Jessie Jones (Gladstone, Ore.) came to bat with one out and blasted a two-run triple before reaching home on a single by the next batter -- Kollaer. Corban's final run of the inning came with two outs, as Strange hit an RBI single to bring Kollaer across the plate.
Holding to a 6-2 lead after one-and-a-half innings, Corban fell apart in the bottom of the second inning as its watched the host Raiders put nine runs on the board via eight hits and a quintet of Warrior miscues.
Using their never-say-die attitude, the Warriors fought back and scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning highlighted by RBIs courtesy of Gaylord and Jones.
The Warriors attempted a comeback over the final four innings, but could not get any closer than three runs as Gaylord and sophomore Jessica Pierce (Kennewick, Wash.) each recorded RBI via a single and a double respectively.
Jones led the Corban offense with three RBIs on a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate to go along with Gaylord's 3-for-4 effort and four 2-for-4 showings by Strange, Sisler, Pierce, and Childers. Kollaer began the game in the circle for the Warriors, allowing 14 runs (two earned) on 13 hits before turning the ball over to Sisler for the game's final three innings.
For the Red Raiders, Simon led SOU with two RBIs on a 3-for-5 performances at the plate to go along with Caudill's three-RBI performance for Southern Oregon. In the circle, Joelle Riekeman allowed 11 runs (all earned) on 18 hits to go with two strikeouts in a complete game performance for the Red Raiders.
With the split, Corban moves to 12-17 overall, 9-9 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Southern Oregon improves to 11-17 overall, 9-7 in CCC action. The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, April 19th, when they travel to Klamath Falls to face the NAIA's No. 21-ranked Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Tech beginning at at noon on OIT's Softball Field.
