SALEM, Ore. – Thanks to a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored by sophomore Laura Santie (Seattle, Wash.), Corban’s softball team split a conference double header with Southern Oregon, 7-3 & 4-9, on Warrior Field.

Game #1 – Corban 7, Southern Oregon 3

Senior starter Rachel Hiatt (Sublimity, Ore.) pitched 7.0 solid innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits in earning her 4th victory of the season, 7-3, and 2nd straight over the Red Raiders of Southern Oregon.

Trailing 2-0 after SOU’s opening inning, Corban stormed back when sophomore Caylin Goss (La Grande, Ore.) led off the 1st inning with a double down the right field line.  Fellow sophomore Megan Lamson (Medford, Ore.) followed with a sacrifice bunt that advanced Goss to third.  Sophomore Lindsay Batey (Aloha, Ore.) then roped an RBI double to center field, scoring Goss.  One batter later, Santie tied the game at 2-all with an RBI single to left center that scored Batey from second.

Southern Oregon re-took the lead in the 3rd inning when Kim Kraxberger singled to right center, scoring Megan Rock from second base.

Following a walk to Batey and a single by Hiatt in the 4th inning, SOU went to the bullpen and brought in Cat Cousins with a 1-run lead.  Fortunately for the Warriors, Cousins could not hold the lead, as Santie collected her 2nd RBI of the game with a single to left field that scored Batey from second.  Two batters later, senior Monica Crumley (Gold Beach, Ore.) put the Warriors up for good with an RBI double to right center that plated freshman Rachel Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) and Santie.

Corban tacked on single runs in the 4th and 5th innings thanks to a sacrifice line out by Batey in the 4th and a pass ball by the Red Raiders in the 5th that allowed Santie to score from third en route to the final margin of 7-3.

Game #2 – Southern Oregon 9, Corban 4

The night cap was the complete opposite of the opening game, as Southern Oregon scored at least 1 run in each of the first five innings.

The Red Raiders kicked the game off with 4 runs in the first inning, as Rock singled home the first run and Kraxberger drove in the second run before SOU scored 2 unearned runs via an error.

Trailing 5-0 after two innings, Corban got on the board when Santie scored her 3rd run of the afternoon via a wild pitch and Goss doubled down the right field line, scoring freshman Becca Shelamer (Central Point, Ore.) and Steigleman.

Southern Oregon tacked on a pair of runs in the 4th inning via an infield single by Rock and a single to left field by Kraxberger, and then capped their scoring in the 5th inning with an RBI double down the right field line by Deni Rowley.

The Warriors attempted a last-minute come back in the 7th inning when Santie double to right center, allowing Batey to score from second, but it was too little, too late for the home team.

Freshman starter Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) pitched the first 4.1 innings, allowing 8 runs (6 earned) on 11 hits, before being hit in the right leg by a line drive off the bat of Natalie Nielsen.  Hiatt took the ball for the final 2.2 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits.

On the afternoon, Batey went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored, while Hiatt, Goss, and Steigleman each collected 2 hits for the Warriors.

Southern Oregon was led to victory in the night cap by Rowley, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI, and Rock, who was a perfect 4-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs.

Corban is now 4-20 overall, 2-10 in conference, while Southern Oregon finds themselves at 16-13 overall, 6-6 in CCC play.  The Warriors will be next in action on Saturday, April 15th, when they host the NAIA’s No. 24-ranked Oregon Tech in a conference double header beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Warrior Field
