SALEM, Ore. – Despite a combined 4-for-7 performance from senior Rachel Hiatt (Sublimity, Ore.), Corban’s softball team dropped a conference double header to the Lady Coyotes of Albertson, 3-0 & 7-4, at Warrior Field.

The Warrior bats were held hitless over the first five-plus innings of Game #1 before Hiatt broke up the no-no with a two-out bloop single into right center.  Sophomore Laura Santie (Seattle, Wash.) followed Hiatt’s single with a base hit of her own, but the pitching of the Lady Coyotes’ Kerri Russell shut down Corban over the final 1.1 innings and secured her 6th win of the season.

Hiatt pitched all 7.0 innings, allowing 3 runs (all earned) on 6 hits, while striking out 2 Albertson batters.

In the nightcap, Albertson grabbed the early lead via Stacy Smith’s team-leading 7th home run of the season in the 2nd inning.

Corban battled back in the 3rd inning and scored 2 runs via back-to-back wild pitches to grab their first lead of the day.

Relief pitcher A.J. Cavanaugh quickly gave the Lady ‘Yotes the lead in the 4th inning when she connected on her 5th home run of the season – a 3-run shot to left field.

The Warriors tied the game at 4-all in the bottom of the inning when sophomore Caylin Goss (La Grande, Ore.) roped a 2-run double into left center that scored senior Monica Crumley (Gold Beach, Ore.) from third and freshman Megan Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) from second.

Albertson’s Katie Theisen drove in the game-winning run in the 5th inning via a double that hit the right field foul line and scored Smith from third.

The Lady ‘Yotes scored single runs via a Katie Zillner double in the 6th inning and a Theisen single in the 7th inning for the final margin of 7-4.

Freshman starter Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) went the distance for Corban, allowing 7 runs (all earned) on 9 hits, while striking out 6 Lady ‘Yotes.

Hiatt finished the day 4-for-7 at the plate, while Goss was a perfect 1-for-1 with 2 runs batted in and a run scored in Game #2.  Crumley registered two hits, while freshman Rachel Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) and Gaylord both recorded a hit in the nightcap.

Corban is now 3-19 overall, 1-9 in conference, while Albertson jumps to 12-13 overall, 5-5 in CCC play.  The Warriors will be next in action on Friday, April 14th, when they host Southern Oregon in a conference double header beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Warrior Field
