Warriors drop home opener to Cavaliers of Concordia

Sophomore Megan Lamson was 1-for-3 on the day and scored the Warriors' first run against the Cavaliers of Concordia.

SALEM, Ore. – Corban’s bats stayed calm while visiting Concordia’s exploded, as the Cavaliers swept a Cascade Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from the Warriors, 14-0 and 11-3, on the strength of four home runs and a total of 25 hits at Warrior Field.

The Cav’s Brynn Ludwig, Shauna Ostlund and Kelly Rattay drilled homers to lead a 15-hit attack on the way to a 14-0 victory in the first game.  Concordia’s Annele Huckins pitched a three-hit shutout, while striking out 9 Corban batters.

Senior pitcher Rachel Hiatt (Sublimity, Ore.) was 1-for-1 for the Warriors, while sophomore Megan Lamson (Medford, Ore.) and freshman Megan Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) collected the only other two hits for Corban in the opener.

Concordia road a 3-run homer and a total of 5 RBI’s from Kelly Mannion to an 11-3 win in the nightcap.  The Cavaliers’ Kristin Donohue gained the pitching victory, scattering four hits while giving up just two earned runs.

Corban got on board first in the second game, as Lamson walked, advanced on another free pass to sophomore Lindsay Batey (Aloha, Ore.) and scored on an RBI single by Hiatt.

Senior Andrea Hansen (Canby, Ore.) scored on an RBI hit from Batey and sophomore Caylin Goss (La Grande, Ore.) crossed home plate thanks to a passed ball and an error to complete the Warriors’ scoring in the 4th inning.

Freshman Becca Shelamer (Central Point, Ore.) had a pair of hits in two trips, while Batey and Hiatt each collected base hits for the Warriors in game two.

Corban is now 3-15 overall, 1-5 in conference, while Concordia jumps to 15-16 overall, and 3-3 in CCC play.  The Warriors will be next in action on Friday, April 7th, when they host Eastern Oregon in a conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
