Offense gets 15 hits in twin bill loss at Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Senior Rachel Hiatt (Sublimity, Ore.)  and sophomore Lindsay Batey (Aloha, Ore.) collected four hits apiece and led a 15-hit attack on the day, but Corban’s softball squad fell twice to host OIT, 6-4 and 10-4, to open Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Game 1 –Oregon Tech 6,  Corban 4,

Hiatt clubbed a double and knocked in two runs, and Batey smacked a pair of two-baggers and scored twice for the Warriors, but the Owls scored two runs each in the third and fifth innings to gain their 8th victory against just one defeat on the year.

Sophomore Laura Santie (Seattle, Ore.) added a RBI double in the 6th for Corban and also finished with two hits in the opener. Hiatt, the Warriors’ starter, recorded the complete game, pitching six innings and yielding six runs (5 earned), while registering four strikeouts.

Junior Amanda Doherty had two hits and a pair of RBIs, and pitcher Jenni Bittle struck-out five to pick up her fourth win on the year for Oregon Tech.

Game 2 – Oregon Tech 10, Corban 4

Corban jumped out 2-0 in the first thanks to three Tech errors, but the Owls came back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back in claiming the two-game sweep over the visitors.

Batey had two hits, produced one run and scored another for the Warriors, and Hiatt was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap. Santie added her second run batted in of the day with a sacrifice bunt in the opening stanza.

Freshman Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) went the distance on the mound for Corban, giving up 10 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits and 8 base-on-balls.

Doherty led the winners with two hits, including her 3rd home run in six games for Oregon Tech. Kelsi Haylett stole four bases and scored twice for the Owls in game two.

.Corban is now 2-10, while Oregon Tech jumps to 9-1 on the season.  The Warriors will be next in action on Saturday, March 25th, when they travel to Ashland to square of in another conference doubleheader with Southern Oregon beginning at 11:00 a.m.
